“What is Keto?

I get this question every day. I can see why people are curious. Between my husband and I, we’ve lost 35 lbs in our first month on the ketogenic diet.


Ruled.me is a great source, and answers this question more thoroughly than I can:

“A keto diet is well known for being a low carb diet, where the body produces ketones in the liver to be used as energy. It’s referred to as many different names – ketogenic diet, low carb diet, low carb high fat (LCHF), etc.”

Usually your body will use Glucose (from carbs and sugar) for energy. Putting your body into a state of Ketosis retrains the body to use fat for energy in place of glucose, turning you into a 24 hour fat-burning machine!

There are many resources to help you along the way. Reddit’s Keto subreddit a great community, and for questions and concern from the ladies, the xxKeto subreddit is extremely helpful.

Keto is not for everyone. Consider speaking with your doctor before starting any diet, especially if you have any chronic health issues.
